Hello, Court Reporters!
My name is Lisa Renegar. I am a retired, 30-year public school educator. I hold a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. After retiring and a period of contemplation as to where my quieter next chapter would lead me, I asked myself, "What skill do I already possess that I can potentially translate into income?" After googling "work-from-home jobs," I found an article that contained the words "Have we peaked your interest?" It didn't "peak" my interest, no, but it did "pique" something else.
I've been an "armchair proofreader" my entire life: novels, magazine articles, television captions, you name it. I had had "a proofreader" in the family for decades, but what he did exactly, day-to-day, and how it pertained to court reporting, was always something of a mystery.
Casually picking his brain one day, he explained that he proofread the spoken word, vastly different from traditional proofreading; that knowing the difference and understanding the nuance is what makes transcript proofreading a special skill.
Seldom does an opportunity present and fully reveal itself with such speed and clarity. But I knew. I underwent to completion a highly focused course of study where I learned not only how to proofread for court reporters but also gained a deep, big picture understanding of your industry. I learned why you needed me. In conjunction, I received many months of guided, one-on-one mentorship from a working industry veteran with over 30 years' experience.
So that is the "origin story" of CAT Lady Proofreading. It has excitedly led me to you!

To deliver clean transcripts; on-time turnaround; competitive rates; and clear, hassle-free communication.
Expedites, long-term relationships, overflow/backup, or the occasional one-off, I can accommodate you!
Your final draft will be readable, correct, and polished—and it will reflect you in the best possible way.

Margie Wakeman Wells, widely regarded as the preeminent grammar and punctuation authority of the court reporting profession, shaped much of the way I understand transcript punctuation.
Her book, Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation, is considered one of the definitive references for punctuating legal transcripts and continues to guide best practices across the industry.

Merriam-Webster is the preferred dictionary for court reporters because it reflects current American usage and provides clear, consistent guidance on spelling, hyphenation, and word forms. Its alignment with industry-standard references ensures accuracy and defensibility in legal transcripts.
I will always correct toward Merriam-Webster's main entry and not acceptable variants. (For example, I will suggest "email" instead of "e-mail"; "moneys" instead of "monies"; and "health care" instead of "healthcare," unless I am directed otherwise by you.)

Within your email, specify the requested deadline for the return of your transcript. Is there anything you need to advise me about (for example, the witness' English is poor)? Do you have any special instructions or specific style preferences you would like me to follow? Tell me how you want things done, and that will drive the work. You're the boss!

Only after we have communicated, you have verified my availability, and we have formally agreed to work together, please email your PDF transcript to catladyproofreading@gmail.com.
Please ensure your transcript has been carefully scoped and spell-checked prior to sending.

Fast, precise, and hassle free! Your annotated transcript will be returned to you via email on or before your requested deadline with clean and simple annotations that align with your personal style and preferences.
"I will absolutely refer you to my friends."
"Wow, speedy! Aren't you impressive!"
"I am very impressed."
"I agree, your way is the best and newest way for sure."
"I really appreciate you jumping in to help!"
"You're a ROCKSTAR!"
"Gosh you're fast!"
"This is great! Thank you so much!"
"I'm just so grateful to have your help!"
For first-time clients only, you can "try before you buy"!
I will proofread your first 20 pages (standard turnaround) at no cost to you. I can either deduct 20 pages from your first invoice; or I can stop at page 20, return your annotated PDF at no charge, and have you confirm that we're a good "fit" before proceeding further.
If you already have a preference sheet, you can attach it in an email along with the first job you send. If you don't have a preference sheet, you are encouraged to fill out my Google Form at the link below, to ensure that I am mirroring your style as I proofread.
All rates below reflect a maximum 25-line (or less) page.

$0.95 PER PAGE

SAME DAY (ASAP OR WITHIN YOUR SPECIFIED DEADLINE)
$1.05 PER PAGE
This is my "drop everything and read now " rate.
*"DAYS" ABOVE ARE CALENDAR DAYS AND INCLUDE WEEKENDS.

Transcripts heavy on technical, medical, or "expert" jargon may incur an up charge of $0.10 per page.
Any necessary up charge will be discussed with you prior to completion.

All-colloquy, non-Q and A transcripts (hearings, motions, interviews, voir dire, et cetera) will incur an automatic up charge of $0.10 per page.
For transcripts which are 26 or 28 lines per page, your page count will be adjusted accordingly using a mathematical computation, roughly an additional $0.05 per page.

If a transcript requires extra care and the scope of work becomes more of an "editing" than a proofreading job, a suggested up charge may be proposed to compensate for my extra time. Once determined by me that this is warranted, it will be discussed with you prior to completion. This ensures that there will be no "surprises" or unexpected additional charges when you receive my invoice. Ever.

My invoicing and payment service is Wave Financial. For established clients, invoicing is issued twice monthly—on the 1st and 15th—via emailed invoices through Wave Financial.
Jobs received between the 1st and 14th are invoiced on the 15th. Jobs received between the 15th and the last day of the month are invoiced on the 1st.
Payment in full is due within 15 calendar days of receiving the invoice.

Your invoice will be sent by email through Wave and will include a secure payment portal with multiple payment options, including bank transfer, debit card, and major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, and Discover).
If you prefer, payment may also be made via Zelle (my preference), Venmo, or PayPal. QR codes to pay via these three methods are found to the right and below. Please note that checks are not accepted.
For new or one-time clients, the first invoice must be paid in full before any additional work will be considered. This invoice is issued upon completion of the first job and is due upon receipt. After a client relationship is established, invoices are issued twice monthly, with a 15-day payment window.
